RECAP: Schaumburg Slides Past Lake Erie

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, claimed a fifth consecutive victory by sliding past the Lake Erie Crushers 2-1 on Monday night.

All of the offense occurred in the third inning. Lake Erie tallied just one run on five hits in the top of the frame following a base running mistake, the lone tally against starter Eddie Cody. Cody worked a career-high seven innings and scattered six hits with a walk and four strikeouts to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Schaumburg scored twice in the bottom of the third as Alexi Colon tied the game with a single through the right side to bring home Gerard HallTyler Sciacca accounted for the difference with a two-out single to plate Michael Valadez. Colon, Valadez, and Sciacca collected two hits apiece, the only six hits of the game for the home team. Dexter Price worked the ninth for his 14th save and the 30th of his two-year career with the Boomers.

Schaumburg (36-26) will attempt to sweep the homestand on Tuesday morning in an 11:00 a.m. scheduled first pitch. The Boomers, a league best 25-7 at home, send RHP Cal Bowling (5-5, 5.66) to the mound against Lake Erie’s LHP Matt Rein (0-4, 5.77).
