RECAP: Boomers Complete Perfect Homestand with 8-2 Win

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rewarded a Day Camp Day crowd of 6,752 with an 8-2 victory over Lake Erie Crushers to sweep the six-game homestand.

Schaumburg opened the scoring for just the second time on the homestand, striking for a first inning run on a Mark Nelson RBI single. After Lake Erie tied the score in the third, Ty Nelson delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the frame to put the Boomers ahead for good.Clark Labitan recorded a key out with the bases loaded in the seventh to preserve a one-run advantage before the bats erupted for five more runs in the bottom of the seventh to put the game out of reach. Ty Nelson doubled home two and All-Star Catcher Michael Valadez logged a three-run double to account for the final.

Cal Bowling worked five innings to win for the first time since July 3. Bowling allowed two runs on six hits. Valadez led an 11-hit attack with three including a pair of doubles and Ty Nelson recorded four RBIs.

The victory allowed Schaumburg to match a franchise record with a sixth consecutive win. The Boomers, owners of the top home record in the league at 26-7, had never finished 6-0 on a homestand previously in franchise history.

Schaumburg (37-26) opens a six-game roadtrip on Wednesday night in Michigan against the Traverse City Beach Bums in a 6:05 p.m. contest. LHP Danny Jimenez (5-3, 3.55) starts the contest against LHP Rusty Shellhorn (4-2, 4.02).

The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood. Reserve your piece of the fun at Boomers Stadium this season by calling 847.461.3695 or visitingwww.boomersbaseball.com.
