RECAP: Boomers Hold Off Wild Things

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, salvaged a game in the series by collecting a 5-4 win over the Washington Wild Things on Friday night.

All five runs scored in the bottom of the fourth for the Boomers. Schaumburg sent eight men to the plate against Troy Marks, the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week who was with the Boomers in spring training last year. Ty Nelson kick started the offense with an RBI single to score Tony Delmonico, who doubled and has hit safely in nine straight. Michael Valadez notched a two run single and Alexi Colon tripled home a pair. Colon’s triple made him the franchise all-time leader in that category.

The run support was more than enough for Eddie Cody, who won his third consecutive start. Cody worked six innings and allowed just a single run, striking out six. Dexter Price came on in the ninth after Washington scored three times, retiring the final two hitters to leave the tying run at second. Price earned his 17th save matching the single season franchise record.

Schaumburg (42-30) leads the league in attendance and owns the top home record at 27-9. The Boomers continue a nine-game homestand on Saturday night against the Rockford Aviators. The contest features a seat cushion giveaway as well as postgame fireworks. RHP Cal Bowling (6-6, 5.90) starts for the Boomers while Rockford sends RHP Kyle Hassna (1-3, 2.15).

The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood. Reserve your piece of the fun at Boomers Stadium this season by calling 847.461.3695 or visitingwww.boomersbaseball.com.
