RECAP: Boomers Tackle Otters

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, earned a second consecutive victory over the Evansville Otters with a 6-1 decision on Wednesday afternoon.

The Boomers claimed victory despite managing only four hits in the game. Ty Nelson opened the scoring with an RBI single, one of two hits in the game, to drive home Mark Nelson in the bottom of the second. Jordan Dean scored on a wild pitch in the third.

The early offense was more than enough for Eddie Cody. Cody worked 7.2 innings and allowed just a single run on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts. Kevin Brahney recorded the final four outs for his first save, leaving the tying run at third in the eighth. Michael Valadez provided some distance with a three-run two out double in the bottom of the eighth.

Schaumburg (46-31) is a season high 15 games over the .500 mark. The Boomers conclude the longest homestand of the season with a 6:30 p.m. contest on Thursday night. RHP Cal Bowling (6-6, 5.75) receives the call against EvansvilleRHP William Oliver (1-0, 4.77).
