RECAP: Boomers Fall in Homestand Finale

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, concluded the longest homestand of the season with a 6-1 loss to the Evansville Otters.

Schaumburg opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Tony Delmonico smacked a double down the left field line to bring home Joe De Pintowith the only run of the game. Evansville immediately tied the score in the second and moved ahead with a pair of runs in the third. Evansville starter William Oliver worked eight innings, limiting the Boomers for the remainder of the game. 

Cal Bowling matched a season high with eight strikeouts and contributed a quality start but took the loss after tossing six innings. Schaumburg managed just six hits in the game, two each from Delmonico and Gerard Hall. The Boomers finished the homestand 5-4 but still own the top record in the league at home with a 31-11 mark and won the final two series of the stand.

Schaumburg (46-32) hits the road to begin a key three game series at Gateway on Friday night. LHP Anthony Gomez (0-0, 5.79) makes his first pro start in the 7:05 p.m. contest against RHP Ja’Vaun West (7-1, 3.67).
