RECAP: Boomers Homer Past Gateway
SAUGET, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened a key three game series with a 6-4 road win over the Gateway Grizzlies on Friday night.

The Boomers never trailed in the contest, using a pair of homers to put an extra game between themselves and Gateway in the West Division. The teams came into action just one game apart. Justin Vasquez nailed a two run homer in the third to open the scoring and Mark Nelson drilled a two run shot in the ninth to cap the scoring. Gateway hit three solo homers in the contest and twice pulled within a run but could get no closer.

Anthony Gomez made a spot start for the Boomers and worked 3.1 innings, using a double play to escape a bases loaded no out situation in the third without allowing a run. Gomez allowed just one run while striking out four. Justin Erasmus entered in the fourth with the tying run at third but recorded back to back outs to escape. Erasmus went on to work 4.2 innings and earn his second win in three appearances for Schaumburg, beating his former club. Erasmus struck out six. Tony Delmonico, Vasquez, and Jordan Dean posted two hits each in the victory.

Schaumburg (47-32) remains a game out in the West Division race. The series continues on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The Boomers will send reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week RHP Seth Webster (5-3, 3.02) to the mound against Gateway RHP Tucker Jensen (7-3, 4.41). The game can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
