RECAP: Gateway Holds Off Boomers
SAUGET, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened could not rally in a 2-1 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies on Saturday night.
 
The Boomers left 11 on base, mounting a threat in every inning but the first. Gateway opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second against reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week Seth Webster. Webster worked 6.1 innings and allowed just two runs but suffered the hard luck loss. Schaumburg evened the game with three consecutive hits in the top of the fifth. Justin Vasquez logged an RBI single to drive home Alexi Colon. Gateway immediately retook the lead in the bottom of the frame and held off the Boomers and the weather. Schaumburg left the tying run at second in the ninth. Mark Nelson posted three hits in the defeat.
 
The rubber game of the series takes place on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. Schaumburg (47-33) places RHP Charle Rosario (0-0, 5.75) on the mound against RHP Tyler Thompson (3-2, 2.97).
