RECAP: Belters Beat Boomers
NORMAL, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, suffered a 7-4 loss to the Normal CornBelters in the opener of a three game series on Tuesday night.
 
Normal opened a 3-0 lead in the contest, scoring twice in the fourth and adding an unearned run in the fourth. Alexi Colon nailed his ninth homer of the season in the sixth to bring Schaumburg within 3-2 before Normal added another in the bottom of the frame. The Boomers were able to tie the game with two runs in the seventh. Cam Sherrer, signed at the transaction deadline for a second stint with the team, drove home a run with a groundout. Michael Valadez evened the score with a single to bring home Mark Nelson. Starter Eddie Cody worked 5.2 innings and allowed three runs. Clark Labitan took the loss. Mark Nelson posted a pair of hits in the loss.
 
Schaumburg (48-34) sends RHP Cal Bowling (6-7, 5.66) to the hill in the second game of the series on Wednesday night. RHP Bobby Shore (4-5, 4.33) counters for the CornBelters in the 7:00 p.m. contest.
