RECAP: Boomers Blast Past Greys

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, opened the final six game homestand of the season with a 10-6 win over the Frontier Greys on Friday night.

Tony Delmonico erased a 4-2 deficit with a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning for his eighth homer of the year, putting Schaumburg in front 6-4. The Boomers would add to the lead with a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to jump ahead 10-4. Anthony Smith shut the door in the top of the ninth as the Greys brought the tying run to the plate.

Justin Vasquez posted four hits in the game with a triple and three runs scored. Delmonico finished with four RBIs whileMark Nelson drove home three. Ross Spurgeon earned his first pro win by working three scoreless innings and striking out five.

Schaumburg (51-34), winners of three straight, own a magic number of eight with 11 games to play to clinch a second consecutive playoff appearance. The series continues at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night when RHP Charle Rosario (1-0, 6.23) starts for the Boomers against RHP Keith Picht (2-7, 6.61).
