RECAP: Boomers Overcome Aviators

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, received a two-run homer from Tony Delmonico in the bottom of the seventh to overtake the Rockford Aviators 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Delmonico’s blast came with one away against reliever Michael Schaub and also brought home Justin Vasquez to erase a 3-2 deficit. Delmonico has drilled nine homers in 32 games with the team. The Tennessee native drove home three, opening the scoring with an RBI single in the third. Vasquez posted four hits in the contest as the Boomers finished with 11, the fifth straight game with 10 or more hits.

Seth Webster won his second consecutive start by twirling 7.1 innings. Webster, the franchise leader in wins, strikeouts, and starts, fanned five in the win. Clark Labitan recorded the final out to earn his third save.

Schaumburg (54-34) owns a six-game win streak and is creeping closer to a return playoff visit. The magic number sits at two, and the Boomers remain tied for first in the West and the overall. The series continues on Wednesday after with a 1:00 p.m. affair. RHP Cal Bowling (7-7, 5.65) takes the ball for the Boomers in the matinee against RHP Ryan Zimmerman (8-5, 3.20).

The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood. Reserve your piece of the fun at Boomers Stadium this season by calling 847.461.3695 or visiting www.boomersbaseball.com.
