RECAP: Boomers Clinch Playoff Spot with Walk-Off

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, walked off with an 11-10 win over the Rockford Aviators to become the first team in the Frontier League to clinch a playoff slot.

Joe De Pinto served as the hero, singling to left center with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Boomers to the playoffs for a second consecutive season. De Pinto’s single, his second of the game, capped a wild night which saw the Boomers leave a franchise record 19 runners on base. The contest featured four ties and saw the Boomers fail to hold a 4-0 lead only to rally from deficits of 9-6 and 10-9 to score the win. Alexi Colon posted four hits while Mark Nelson drove home three. Dexter Price earned the win in relief.

Schaumburg (56-34) has won eight straight to equal a franchise record and matched a league record with a 37th win at home. Schaumburg hits the road for a three game weekend series with the Windy City ThunderBolts beginning on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Eddie Cody (6-1, 3.05) starts for the Boomers opposite RHP Pete Whittingslow (0-0, 2.04).

The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood. Reserve your piece of the fun at Boomers Stadium this season by calling 847.461.3695 or visiting www.boomersbaseball.com.
