RECAP: Boomers Better Belters & Set Home Records

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, set a new league record for home wins by rallying to an 8-3 decision over the Normal CornBelters on Tuesday night, also setting a single season attendance record in the process.

Trailing 3-0, the Boomers rallied to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth. Schaumburg had just one hit entering the inning but received a two out two-run single from Gerard Hall followed by a Michael Valadez poke to tie the game. The Boomers plated five runs in the eighth to lead for the first time. Tony Delmonico scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded to put Schaumburg ahead. Valadez added a two-run single and Joe De Pinto a two-run double in the inning.

Kevin Brahney collected his first win with the Boomers, retiring the final batter of the eighth. Charle Rosario worked a season high seven innings but did not factor in the decision, striking out four. Mark Nelson and Valadez posted two hits each. The Boomers, league leaders in average attendance, have drawn 151,604 through the gates at Boomers Stadium this year with two dates remaining. Schaumburg owns a 38-11 mark at home. Several teams in league history had won 37 home contests, most recently Traverse City in 2012.

Schaumburg (59-35) remains in a tie for first and plays an afternoon contest on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. RHP Eddie Cody (7-1, 3.01) takes the ball for the Boomers opposite RHP Chris Carmain (4-0, 3.04). The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
