RECAP: Boomers Set Franchise Record for Wins

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The 2013 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, recorded win number 60 on the season, rallying past the Normal CornBelters 4-2 on Wednesday to set a team record for wins.

A pitcher’s duel throughout, Normal opened the scoring with a single run in the top of the fifth against Schaumburg starter Eddie Cody. The 1-0 lead held until Alexi Colon deposited his 11th homer of the season over the wall in right in the bottom of the seventh, a three run shot that also brought home Gerard Hall and Michael Valadez.

Cody worked seven innings to collect his eighth win of the year, striking out six. Mark Nelson added insurance with a solo homer in the eighth. Dexter Price finished out the win with a perfect ninth for his 21st save. Schaumburg, who posted a 39th home win, won despite accumulating just four hits. Hall notched a single to extend his hitting streak to 16 games, a team record.

Schaumburg (60-35) rounds out the regular season on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. on Fan Appreciation Night. The Boomers remain tied for first in the West and need a win coupled with a River City loss to claim the division title. Both teams have yet to announce starters for the series finale. The contest can be heard live on AM 1410 WRMN with the Voice of the Boomers and 2013 Frontier League Broadcaster of the Year, Tim Calderwood.
