Boomers Split Double in Pennsylvania
WASHINGTON, Pa. — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, split a pair of games with the Washington Wild Things on Sunday afternoon.
Schaumburg trailed for a bulk of both games but used a late rally to win the opener 7-6 in eight innings before a 2-0 defeat in the second contest. Washington scored twice in the first of game one and led 5-1 headed into the seventh. The Boomers, who recorded just three hits entering the inning, scored four runs on six hits to force extra innings.Ryan Tuntland notched his first hit of the year to score Jordan Dean with the tying run. The go ahead run scored on an error in the eighth and Mike Schulze added an RBI single.
Game two saw the Boomers pick up just three total hits. Washington scored twice in the second to account for the only runs. Anthony Gomez suffered the loss after working five innings and posting two strikeouts. Alexi Colon was not retired in the doubleheader, reaching base seven times with three hits and four walks. The third year member of the team became the career leader in walks in the opener. Tillman Pugh homered in the first contest.
The Boomers (3-1) continue a seven-game roadtrip to start the season on Tuesday night against the Windy City ThunderBolts. RHP Brett Mabry makes his season debut for the Boomers against LHP Danny Jimenez, who pitched for Schaumburg in 2013 and 2014.
