CRESTWOOD, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, will return home with a 5-2 record after capping a seven-game season opening roadtrip with a 9-1 decision over the Windy City ThunderBolts.

The contest was closer than the final score. Schaumburg fell behind 1-0 early and managed just one hit through the first six innings against the Frontier League Pitcher of the Week, Jake Fisher. The bats broke open in the seventh as the Boomers chased Fisher with four runs on six hits to open a 4-1 lead. Tillman Pugh picked up a two-run single to hand Schaumburg the lead. Alexi Colon and Michael Valadez also record RBI hits in the frame. Ryan Tuntland connected on a grand slam in the ninth as the Boomers tacked on five more to account for the final.

Eddie Cody was the beneficiary of the run support. Cody improved to 2-0 on the season by working eight innings and allowing just one run on six hits with seven strikeouts. Colon finished with three hits, two doubles, as the Boomers totaled 11.

The Boomers (5-2) finally open the home scheduled with a 6:30 p.m. contest against the Lake Erie Crushers on Friday night.
