SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, are pleased to announce that infielder Mark Nelson has been signed by the San Francisco Giants organization.

The Orlando, Florida native is slated to report to the Giants Extended Spring Training facility in Scottsdale, Arizona. Nelson, 24, becomes the second Boomers player to be signed to a Major League organization during the 2015 Frontier League season. Opening day pitcher Seth Webster was signed by the Atlanta Braves organization May 15th.

The 6’3” 200 lbs. slugger was a pivotal part in the Schaumburg Boomers 2014 Frontier League Championship with his .323 batting average ranking fourth in the Frontier League. In his first professional season at the time, Nelson led the 2014 Boomers in the regular season with 55 RBIs and 19 doubles, while also adding 53 runs and four HRs in 90 appearances.

In eight games this season for the Boomers, Nelson is 4-for-29 (.138) with four RBIs, two doubles, with three walks and a run.

Including the playoffs, Nelson closes this portion of his professional career with an impressive .292 batting average and 108 total games played in a Boomers uniform.
