Walk-Off Propels Boomers To Comeback Win

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, salvaged the series finale with the Lake Erie Crushers by rallying to a 5-4 walk-off decision.

Craig Massey ended the Memorial Day weekend series in style, logging a two-run single through the right side of a drawn in infield after working the count to hand the Boomers the first walk-off win of the year. Schaumburg fell behind in the contest 4-1, but chipped away with runs in the sixth and eighth on RBIs from Ryan Tuntland to set the stage for the ninth. Clark Labitan earned the win, tossing two blank frames.

Jordan Dean notched a pair of hits to run his hitting streak to eight games. Tillman Pugh and Massey also picked up two hits in the game.Michael Valadez doubled in the fifth for the 200th hit of his career with the Boomers. Brett Mabry worked five innings on the mound, striking out four in his second start of the season. Zach Wendorf notched two perfect innings in place of Mabry. The contest was delayed for 33 minutes due to rain after the first inning.

The Boomers (6-4) will continue the season opening homestand on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. when the Normal CornBelters visit for a divisional series. Arlington Heights, Ill. native RHP Scott Plaza (1-0, 1.23) will make his first start in front of the home fans against RHP Chris Carmain (1-0, 1.29).
