Boomers Bring Back Duval, Sign Gordon

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, announced today the acquisitions of pitcher Max Duval and outfielder Garrett Gordon. Both players will join the Boomers active roster and travel with the team to take on the Southern Illinois Miners June 2-4.

Duval, 24, signed with the Schaumburg Boomers as a free agent after appearing in three games for the Boomers during the 2014 season. Over three appearances last season with the team, Duval twirled 5.1 frames and allowed four runs while punching out three batters. The right-hander pitched in two games for the Oregon City Mud Turtles in the Mount Rainier Professional Baseball League this summer before the league ceased operations. Duval worked 7.2 innings and struck out 13 with a 1.17 ERA for Oregon City, the same team that also produced recent newcomer Garrett Bolt.

Duval rejoins the Boomers organization after splitting his college career between the University of Hawaii and Cuesta College, a junior college in San Luis Obispo, California. At Hawaii, Duval appeared in 67 games as a position player with 31 hits, 10 doubles and 21 runs batted in. Duval saw limited time as a pitcher in college, throwing 8.1 innings over six appearances and holding opponents to a .226 batting average.

Gordon, 22, joins the Boomers after two seasons within the Washington Nationals organization. A 6'0" outfielder weighing 210 pounds, Gordon batted .243 with 24 RBIs and 20 walks over two seasons with the Gulf Coast League Nationals and Auburn Doubledays, where he was a teammate of current Boomers pitcher Jake Joyce.

A 23rd round draft pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft, the Saline, Mich. native posted a .315 batting average and a .439 on-base percentage while playing for Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel, Ill.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the Boomers released outfielder Tillman Pugh and infielder Stephen Rogers. The Boomers roster now stands at 23 players.

The Boomers (6-10) return home to Boomers Stadium June 5 to open a three game set against the Frontier Greys.
