Cody Helps Boomers Stop Spell

MARION, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, snapped a franchise record six-game losing skid with a 3-1 win over the Southern Illinois Miners on the road Tuesday night, riding the arm of Eddie Cody.

Cody tossed seven shutout innings to improve to 3-0 on the season. The second-year member of the squad struck out five and scattered six hits, not allowing a runner to reach second base until the sixth. Jordan Dean handed Schaumburg a 2-0 lead with a two-out two-run single in the top of the third. Newcomer Sam Lind added a two-out RBI single in the fifth.

Craig Massey tallied three hits and scored two runs. Dean and Lind each finished with a pair of hits in the contest as the Boomers posted nine hits in the win. The combination of Brandon Bargas and Hideyoshi Otake finished off the win with Otake earning his first save. Otake struck out two and became the fourth pitcher to earn a save this season.
