Boomers Sign Kamakani Usui

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, announced today recently acquired pitcher Kamakani Usui has reported to the team, and will be eligible when the Schaumburg Boomers take on the Frontier Greys Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Usui, 25, was acquired in a May 30 trade with the Amarillo Thunderheads of the American Association for a Player to be Named Later. His first season playing in independent leagues, Usui pitched a total of 4.1 innings in three games for Amarillo before his acquisition.

A 6’1” 180 pound right-hander, Usui spent 2014 with the Toronto Blue Jays organization where he amassed a 3-1 record with 20 strikeouts over 25 innings pitched. An undrafted free agent, he retired the first 12 batters he faced when playing for the Dundein Blue Jays in 2014.

In a corresponding roster move, the Boomers have released pitcher Garrett Bolt. The Schaumburg Boomers roster now stands at 23 players.

The Boomers (9-11) finish out a three game homestand at Boomers Stadium June 7 against the Frontier Greys with Bark in the Park presented by Lagunitas and Family Sunday promotions. Ensure your place in the fun by calling (847) 461-3695 (FOWL). All games can again be heard on AM 1410 WRMN with the voice of the Boomers, Tim Calderwood.
