Late Surge Bounces Boomers

CRESTWOOD, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, could not hold a late lead in dropping a 12-8 decision in the opener of a series against the Windy City ThunderBolts on the road.

Windy City grabbed an early 4-0 lead with four first inning runs. Schaumburg responded with five in the second to take the advantage. Michael Valadez notched a two-run double and Craig Massey plated a pair with a triple. Mike Schulze lifted a sacrifice fly to hand the Boomers the lead. With the game tied 5-5, Schulze singled home two in the sixth. Alexi Colon homered in the seventh, but Windy City batted around in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six runs to notch the win.

Every member of the lineup reached base at least once for the Boomers. Schulze drove home three with Valadez and Massey finishing with a pair of RBIs. Kamakani Usui took the loss in his debut. Edwin Carl worked five innings for Schaumburg, striking out four.
