FLORENCE, Ky.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, fell behind 10-0 and could not recover in a 16-6 loss to the Florence Freedom on Saturday night.

Florence hit five homers in the game, the most allowed in a single game in team history. Gaby Juarbe hit a three-run homer in the first to set the tone. Scott Plaza lasted just three innings in the game, surrendering nine runs. Florence scored in six different innings. Schaumburg attempted to rally, tallying six unanswered to battle within 10-6. Mike Schulze notched an RBI double in the fifth. Jordan Dean drove home a run and Steve McQuail nailed a two-run homer in the frame. Dean singled home two in the sixth, but Florence tacked on six more to pull away.

Schulze, Dean, and Joel Hutter logged two hits each in the game as the Boomers finished with nine. Dean drove home three runs. Hideyoshi Otake was the only pitcher who did not allow a run, tossing a perfect eighth.

The Boomers (11-15) conclude the series with the Freedom at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday night. RHP Eddie Cody (4-0, 1.06) is scheduled to start for Schaumburg against RHP Chuck Weaver (2-1, 3.13).
