Schaumburg Boomers Add Ward & Jacobson

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, announced today the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Scotty Ward and right-handed pitcher Raul Jacobson in a separate pair of moves.

Both pitchers will be making their professional debuts with the Boomers this week after successful collegiate careers.

Ward, 22, joins the Boomers after four standout years with the Florida Tech Panthers. A Division-II Pitcher of the Year semifinalist in 2015, the 6’3” 180 pound Ward started a team high 13 games en route to a third team All-American nod. Ward finished his senior season with a 9-4 record, a 2.48 earned run average, and 58 strikeouts in 90.2 innings of work.

Jacobson, also 22, comes to Schaumburg after pitching for the University of California-Davis Aggies since 2012. Standing 6’1” and weighing 210 pounds, Jacobson shifted from a bullpen role in 2014 to a starting role for the Aggies 2015 campaign. Jacobson posted a 10-5 career record with three saves and 14 games started, totaling 97 punch outs in 141 frames of work.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the Boomers released pitchers Scott Plaza and Max Duval. The Boomers roster remains at 24.

The Boomers (12-15) return to Boomers Stadium June 16 for a three game weekday series against the Frontier Greys. Ensure your place in the fun by calling (847) 461-3695 (FOWL). All games can again be heard on AM 1410 WRMN with the voice of the Boomers, Tim Calderwood. Broadcasts begin with a 15-minute online only highlight show followed by a 15-minute pre-game radio show.
