Boomers Split With Aviators

LOVES PARK, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, split a Sunday doubleheader with the Rockford Aviators on the road following a rainout on Saturday.

BOOMERS 7, AVIATORS 4 – GAME ONE
The Boomers used a five-run second inning to seize control in the opener. Trailing 2-1, Michael Valadez connected on a to-run homer in the frame to open the scoring. Jordan Dean tallied an RBI double, Craig Massey an RBI single, and Steve McQuail a sacrifice fly in the frame.

Eddie Cody improved to 5-0 on the season with five innings of work. Jake Joyce became the seventh pitcher to earn a save for the Boomers this season by working through the seventh. Schaumburg raked 12 hits, with three coming from Joel Hutter. Eight individuals notched hits in the contest.

AVIATORS 2, BOOMERS 0 – GAME TWO
Schaumburg dropped a rubber game for the first time this season despite a complete game effort from Edwin Carl. Rockford scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to account for the final. The Boomers could manage little against the league leader in ERA, Rockford’s Tony Rizzotti.

Carl tossed a complete game, becoming the first pitcher in team history to record multiple games with 10 or more strikeouts. Carl struck out 11, matching the team record. The righty also struck out 11 on Tuesday and owns 22 strikeouts with just two hits and nine hits allowed in 15.2 innings over his last two starts. Craig Massey led a four-hit attack with a pair.

Schaumburg (15-18) returns home following an off-day for a Tuesday 11:00 a.m. affair with the Joliet Slammers. Ensure your place in the fun at Boomers Stadium this year by calling (847) 461-FOWL (3695).
