SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, are proud to announce the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Peter Gehle and infielder Willi Martin in a separate pair of moves.

Gehle, a 6'6" 240 pound left-handed pitcher, joins the Boomers after a brief stint with the Lake Erie Crushers earlier this year. Having posted a 1-1 record on the season with a 4.05 ERA at the time of his signing, Gehle's lone 2015 Frontier League victory came against the Boomers May 22.

The 27-year-old southpaw is playing in his second season within the Frontier League, after spending 2014 with the Florence Freedom where he accumulated a 5-7 record in 19 starts.

A 27th round selection by the Chicago White Sox organization in the 2010 MLB Amateur Draft from Azusa Pacific University in California, Gehle spent two seasons with the Great Falls Voyagers of the rookie Pioneer League before joining the independent American Association for the 2012 and 2013 baseball seasons.

Martin, a 6'4" 220 pound rookie from Southeastern University, played infield, outfield, and pitched at the collegiate level. The 23-year-old Tampa, FL native was an honorable mention NAIA All-American his senior season with a .355 batting average in addition to 16 home runs, 23 doubles, and 61 RBIs for the Fire. He will be making his professional debut with the Boomers.

In a pair of corresponding moves, the Boomers released pitcher Anthony Gomez. The Boomers roster currently stands at 24.

The Boomers (15-21) return to Boomers Stadium June 30 for a three game weekday series against the Frontier Greys before welcoming the Evansville Otters to Boomers Stadium for a 4th of July weekend set.
