Boomers Shut Out Traverse City

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, returned the favor by notching a 3-0 shutout of the East Division leading Traverse City Beach Bums on the road Saturday night.

Edwin Carl continued to improve on the mound, spinning six shutout innings to win for the first time this year. Carl struck out nine and allowed just four hits. The righty owns 31 strikeouts over his last three starts, a stretch of 20.2 innings. The Boomers gave Carl all the support he would need with three runs in the third. Jordan Dean doubled home Justin Vasquez with the first run. Michael Valadez, who doubled in the inning, scored on a wild pitch, and Joel Hutter plated Dean with an RBI single.

Four relievers combined on the shutout with Clark Labitan collecting the save by notching a perfect ninth. Hutter finished with two hits in the contest and Mike Schulze extended his team record hitting streak to 19 games with a third inning single. The shutout was the third of the season and halted a five-game losing streak.
