SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, could not hold a 5-0 advantage in a 7-5 loss to the Florence Freedom in Saturday night.

The start of the contest was delayed by over two hours due to rain. The Boomers tallied three consecutive hits in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Kyle Ruchim notched the third hit to plate Willi Martin. Schaumburg extended the lead with three runs in the third, two of which crossed on a double from Martin. Florence evened the game with two in the fourth and three in the fifth before plating the winning run with two outs in the eighth.

Evan Boyd suffered the loss despite throwing three innings out of the bullpen in place of Peter Gehle, who tossed five innings. The Boomers, who were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth, collected 10 hits in the contest with two each coming from Martin, Alexi Colon, and Craig Massey.

Schaumburg (22-28) concludes the first half of the season on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Florence.
