SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, will head into the All-Star break following a 12-3 loss to the Florence Freedom on Sunday, who swept the weekend series.

Florence scored in six different innings, striking for two quick runs in the first against starting pitcher Scotty Ward. The lead reached 4-0 with single runs in the second and third. Jordan Dean singled home Justin Vasquez in the bottom of the third, bringing the Boomers within 4-1. Florence tacked on five unanswered to pull away.

Ward worked four innings in taking the loss. Schaumburg did manage 12 hits in the contest. Dean tallied three with Vasquez, Craig Massey,Mike Schulze, and Willi Martin picking up two each. Brandon Bargas and Clark Labitan worked scoreless frames.

The Boomers are hosting the Frontier League All-Star festivities for the first time beginning on Tuesday night with the Home Run Derby. The All-Star Game features four Schaumburg All-Stars and takes place on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. Schaumburg (22-29) returns to action after the break on Friday at Lake Erie.
