Early Offense Propels Cody and Boomers

SAUGET, Ill. — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, raced to a 6-0 lead in downing the Gateway Grizzlies on the road 8-4 Friday night.

Jordan Dean handed the Boomers a 1-0 lead just two batters in the game, homering over the wall in left. Four runs came across in the second to break open the contest. Ty Nelson delivered a two-run single and Mike Schulze powered his first homer of the year, a two-run blast over the wall in right. Willi Martin singled home a run in the third to make the lead 6-0. Gateway fought within 6-4 before a pair of runs in the eighth sealed the decision.

Eddie Cody became the winningest pitcher in franchise history by working six innings and allowing four runs to improve to 7-2 on the year. Cody, who won his 15th career game, issued one walk and struck out eight. Hideyoshi Otake, Alan Oaks, and Dexter Price combined on the victory. The Boomers lashed 13 hits with three each coming from Schulze, Martin, and Nelson. Alexi Colon added a pair.

The Boomers (27-37) continue the brief three game series on Saturday night with another 7:05 p.m. affair. LHP Peter Gehle (2-3, 5.60) is the scheduled starter for the Boomers opposite RHP Trevor Richards (3-4, 3.25). Hear all of the action on AM 1410 WRMN with the voice of the Boomers, Tim Calderwood.
