Miners Push Past Boomers

SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, suffered a 4-1 home loss to the Southern Illinois Miners in the middle game of a three-game set.

Southern Illinois opened a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top of the third against Schaumburg starter and reigning Frontier League Pitcher of the Week Taylor Thurber. The Miners added another run in the fifth to lead 4-0. Thurber suffered the loss after working six innings and striking out three. The rookie has not issued a walk in 21 innings as a professional. Schaumburg plated a run in the sixth when Mike Schulze crossed on a wild pitch. Schulze walked three times and has reached base in 32 consecutive home contests. The Boomers managed only five hits.

The Boomers (29-39) conclude the series with Southern Illinois on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. on Guys Night. RHP Eddie Cody (7-2, 3.00)starts for the Boomers against RHP Jarrett Miller (3-3, 3.95).
