Boomers Blanked in Finale

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, suffered a 5-0 shutout loss to the Evansville Otters in the finale of a weekend road series on Sunday night.

Evansville limited the Schaumburg bats to just four hits behind starter Brett Marshall, a former big leaguer. Marshall worked eight shutout innings. The Boomers loaded the bases in the first but could not score. The Otters scored two runs in the fifth and added three in the sixth against Schaumburg starter Taylor Thurber, who suffered the loss. Thurber worked six innings , striking out four. Clark Labitan and Lance Phillips worked perfect innings to close the contest.

The Boomers (32-46) return homer to begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday night against the Traverse City Beach Bums at 6:30 p.m. Schaumburg plays at home for virtually the entire month of August.
