SCHAUMBURG, Ill.  — The two-time defending Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, dropped a 5-0 decision on Sunday to the Florence Freedom, who swept the weekend series.

Florence grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run homer from Andrew Godbold. The Freedom outscored the Boomers 12-0 in the first two innings of the series. Florence starter Jeremy Gooding retired the first six batters to come to the plate before a TJ Bennett single in the third. Gooding then retired the next 10 before a single from Cam Sherrer. Schaumburg managed just three hits in the game. Evan Boyd suffered the loss in his second spot start of the week, allowing three runs in five innings of work.

The Boomers (34-50) head to Joliet on Tuesday night to open a brief three-game road series with the Slammers at 7:05 p.m.  Schaumburg still has six home games remaining.
