Comeback Falls Short in Boomers Loss

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, fell one run short of a comeback as they dropped an Independence Day matinee to Joliet 6-5.

The Slammers scored first on an RBI single in the third. James Keller answered in the bottom of the frame with his first professional home run, a solo shot to left. Two innings later, Jordan Dean broke the tie with a solo home run to left, his first long ball of the year. Joliet blew it open in the sixth with a five-run inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Rock Shoulders. Dean singled home a run in the eighth and the Boomers got the winning run on base in the ninth but could muster only one run.

Lars Liguori suffered the loss as he threw six innings allowing six runs on eight hits. The Boomers start a three game series against the Traverse City Beach Bums Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. Ensure your place in the fun at Boomers Stadium this summer by calling (847) 461-FOWL (3695).
