Early Struggles Sink Boomers

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, fell behind early and couldn’t recover as they dropped the opener of a three game series 10-4 Tuesday night.

Traverse City sent 11 batters to the plate in the first, scoring six runs on two hits. The Boomers cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame on a two-run double from All-Star Paul Kronenfeld and an RBI single from fellow All-Star Mark Nelson. The Beach Bums added one in the second and three in the third to make it a 10-3 game. Nick Oberg notched his first professional extra-base hit with an RBI double in the fourth to complete the scoring for the game.

Kurt Lipscomb came in with one out in the first and pitched six and two-thirds innings. Lipscomb allowed four runs on seven hits, striking out three. The six and two thirds innings performance is the longest from a Boomers relief pitcher this season. Schaumburg looks to snap a four game skid Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. with Scott Schultz on the mound. Ensure your place in the fun at Boomers Stadium this summer by calling (847) 461-FOWL (3695).
