Boomers Drop Home Stand Finale

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — On a rainy Thursday night, The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, lost the series finale, 8-2, to the Traverse City Beach Bums.

The Beach Bums scored an unearned run in the first but the Boomers answered on a Mark Nelson RBI single in the bottom of the frame to make it 1-1. The teams exchanged runs again in the second with Schaumburg drawing even on a bases-loaded hit by pitch from Jordan Dean. Starter Gunnar Kines gave up the game winning run in the fifth and Traverse City touched up the Boomers bullpen for five runs in the eighth.

Kines suffered the loss despite throwing six and two-thirds strong innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out five. The Boomers head out on the road Friday to face the Washington Wild Things with All-Star Kagen Hopkins (3-1, 1.90).
