LATE RALLY PRESSES BOOMERS PAST WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied from a late 4-1 deficit to upend the Washington Wild Things 5-4 in the opener of the final series before the All-Star break.

Washington scored single runs in the first four innings against starter Kagen Hopkins, breaking his franchise record scoreless streak at 20.2 innings. Paul Kronenfeld singled home a run in the third for the lone Schaumburg tally until the seventh. The Boomers scored three times with two outs against the Washington bullpen to tie the score. Jordan Dean tallied an infield hit to drive home the first run before a pair of wild pitches enabled Zack Weigel and Dean to come across. Ino Patron doubled home the winning run in the top of the eighth.

Hopkins worked through six innings, allowing just two earned runs in his final start before the break. The All-Star struck out five. Jake Joyce tossed two scoreless innings to collect his team leading fifth win out of the bullpen. Dexter Price shut the door for his fifth save. Dean, Mark Nelson, and Weigel each produced a pair of hits.

The Boomers (24-26) continue the final series before the break on Saturday night with a 6:05 p.m. start. RHP Seth Webster (4-4, 4.36) opposes RHP Matt Fraudin (2-4, 3.51).
