Boomers Fall in Florence Finale

FLORENCE, Ky. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, suffered a 7-1 loss in the final game of a three-game stint in Kentucky against the Florence Freedom.

Schaumburg placed the first two batters of the game on base following a walk to Jordan Dean and a single from Argenis Aldazoro but did not score. Florence tallied a run in the second on a two-out RBI single and broke the game open with four runs in the third. Starter Kagen Hopkins lasted just four innings, a season low. Hopkins was victimized for a season high seven runs, six earned.

Ken Knudsen spun three flawless innings out of the bullpen, striking out four. Patrick Dolan twirled a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts. The Boomers managed just six hits in the game and struggled with only three runs and 18 hits in the series. Dean walked twice and drove home the only run with a seventh inning sacrifice fly while Mark Nelson drew three walks and also singled.

The Boomers (31-39) return home on Friday night with LHP Gunnar Kines (3-4, 3.66) on the mound in a 6:30 p.m. contest that will feature postgame fireworks as part of Star Wars night to open a busy weekend.
