SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, let a late lead slip away as they lost to the Joliet Slammers 6-4 Thursday night.

Joliet jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on a Carter Bell three-run home run. The Boomers got one back in the bottom of the frame on a Mike McClellan RBI single. Schaumburg inched closer in the fourth on an RBI single from Jack Cockrum to make it 3-2. Mark Nelson gave the Boomers a 4-3 lead the next inning with a two-RBI double. Bell struck again in the seventh with his second three-run bomb of the evening to put the Slammers up for good, 6-4.

Gunnar Kines had another strong outing, striking out nine in six innings of work. Kenny Towns extended his hitting streak to eight and was four for four in the ballgame.
