Boomers Offense Baffled in DH Sweep

AVON, Ohio —The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, struggled against the pitching staff of the Lake Erie Crushers, totaling just three hits in dropping both games of a doubleheader 2-0 and 4-0 on Sunday.

The first contest featured dominant pitching performances on both sides. Seth Webster retired the first 11 batters of the game for the Boomers while Stetson Nelson allowed a hit to the leadoff man, Kenny Towns, and then didn’t surrender another until the final frame. Lake Erie tallied an unearned run in the fourth and added a run in the fifth to account for the 2-0 final. Webster struck out six and allowed just three hits in the hard luck loss

Steve Hagen allowed just a third inning single to Towns in the second contest. Towns has hit safely in 11 consecutive contests. Hagen struck out 10 and walked four as the Crushers swept, using a pair of homers to hand Scott Schultz the defeat.

Schaumburg has only eight home games remaining on the schedule with two coming this week. The Boomers will take Monday and Tuesday off before hosting Joliet on Wednesday and Thursday.
