Boomers Toss Shut Out, Sweep Joliet

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, got stellar pitching for the second consecutive game as they completed the two game sweep with a 2-0 victory over Joliet.

Gunnar Kines kept the Slammers bats in check for 6.2 innings, allowing three hits and two walks and striking out six. The Boomers struck in the seventh as Tobias Moreno recorded his first professional RBI to put Schaumburg up 1-0. Moreno notched his first career stolen base on the next pitch before Jordan Dean flared a single to left center to complete the game’s scoring.

Jake Joyce earned his seventh win on the season in relief in 1.1 innings of work. Seven victories is the most for a reliever in Boomers history. Dexter Price retired Joliet in order in the ninth for his twelfth save of the season.

Schaumburg starts a three game series on the road against the Washington Wild Things with Brett Mabry (1-3, 4.36) on the mound.
