Big Innings Sink Boomers

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, struggled to silence Lake Erie’s offense for a second straight game, falling by a final score of 10-3.

The Boomers fell behind early with the Crushers scoring two runs in the second. Schaumburg quickly answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame. Jack Cockrum led off with a triple and came in to score on a Nick Oberg double to left. Tobias Moreno followed with a double of his own to plate Oberg. Moreno eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Argenis Aldazoro to give the Boomers the lead, 3-2.

Lake Erie erupted for four in the fourth to make it 6-3. The Crushers tacked on one in the seventh and shortstop Eric Grabe hit a tape-measure three-run home run in the top of the ninth to complete the scoring at 10-3.

Gunnar Kines suffered the loss, tossing five innings and striking out eight. Kines saw a 13.2 innings scoreless streak snapped in the Lake Erie two-run second inning.

The Boomers try to salvage a win out of the series Thursday night with righty Brett Mabry(2-3, 4.24) facing lefty Connor Reed (3-1, 4.03).
