Boomers Drop Shortest Game in Team History

TRAVERSE CITY, MI — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, received a complete game from Gunnar Kines but fell short in a 1-0 loss to the Traverse City Beach Bums in the opener of the final road series of the season.

Offense was few and far between for both teams as the lone run scored in the bottom of the seventh on a single from Jose Vargas. Kines threw eight innings and allowed just the one run on five hits in falling to 4-6 on the season. The left-hander struck out seven, moving into second place on the single season strikeout list. Kenny Towns tallied two of the four hits for the Boomers, who placed just two runners in scoring position the entire game against three Traverse City hurlers. The contest took just 1:53 to complete, shortest game in franchise history.

The Boomers continue the series on Wednesday night at 6:05 p.m. with RHP Brett Mabry on the mound. The 2016 season is in the final week of the year. The Boomers return home on Friday for the final three games of the season. Make the Boomers part of your plans before it is too late this summer by calling (847) 461-FOWL (3695).
