First Inning Costs Boomers

TRAVERSE CITY, MI — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, fell behind early in a 7-1 loss to the Traverse City Beach Bums on the road Wednesday night.

Traverse City sent nine to the plate in the first inning and scored four times against starter Brett Mabry and did not look back. Mabry worked five innings in the defeat, walking one and striking out four. The Boomers managed only four hits for a second consecutive night with two coming from Mike McClellan. The only run scored in the sixth. Nick Oberg led off with a walk, the lone leadoff man to reach, moved to third on a one-out double from Argenis Aldazoro and scored on a Jordan Dean sacrifice fly. The Schaumburg pitching staff totaled 10 strikeouts in the loss.

The series concludes on Thursday night at 6:05 p.m. when the Boomers send RHP Seth Webster to the mound. The 2016 season is in the final week of the year.
