Near No Hitter Lifts Boomers in Season Finale

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Gunnar Kines held Windy City hitless through seven and two thirds innings to lead the Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, in a 6-1 season finale win.

Kines surrendered a one out walk in the top of the first before retiring 19 straight ThunderBolt hitters. The Boomers bats provided offensive support, scoring three runs in the third on an Argenis Aldazoro bases-loaded triple to make it 3-0. Mike McClellan singled home Aldazoro in the fifth to make it 4-0 and Kenny Towns doubled home McClellan to give Schaumburg a five-run lead.

Blair Beck broke up the no-hit in a big way with a solo shot to left center with two outs in the eighth. The Boomers answered with one in the bottom of the frame and Dexter Price hurled a perfect ninth to conclude the Boomers season with a win.

Kines threw eight innings, allowing just the one hit, walking one and striking out seven, making him the second pitcher in Boomers history with 100 strikeouts or more in a season. Jordan Dean doubled in the second inning to set the Schaumburg single season record for doubles with 26. The Boomers set a single season attendance record with a season attendance of 172,996. 2017 Schaumburg Boomers season tickets and ticket bundles are on sale now.
