Trio of All-Stars Return to Schaumburg

The Schaumburg Boomers quest to reclaim prominence in the Frontier League in 2016 will be bolstered by the return of three 2015 All-Stars as catcher Mike Valadez, second baseman Jordan Dean and pitcher Eddie Cody have agreed to terms, it was announced today.

Valadez, a key member of Jamie Bennett’s back-to-back championship teams in 2013 and 2014, returns for his fifth and final season in Schaumburg as the Boomers all-time leader in hits (254) and games played (294).  The veteran catcher will celebrate his 30th birthday on May 31st when the Boomers take on the Florence Freedom at Boomers Stadium.

Dean, another two-time Frontier League champion, led the Boomers with a .317 batting average in 2015, ranking him 11th in the league. Despite playing in only 64 games due to injury, Dean also led the Boomers in hits (84) and doubles (19) last season.

A key member of the 2014 championship club, Cody enters his third season in Schaumburg with a sterling 18-5 record in 30 career starts for the Boomers.  The right hander finished tied for second in the Frontier League in wins in 2015 as he compiled a solid 10-4 record and 2.77 ERA in 120 innings.

Bennett also announced the re-signing of outfielders Kyle Ruchim and John Menken, both local products who joined the Boomers during the 2015 season.

Ruchim, an All-Big Ten performer at Northwestern University and native of Buffalo Grove, hit .304 with three home runs and 30 RBIs in 60 games for the Boomers last summer.

Menken, who starred at South Elgin, hit .281 in 18 games for the Boomers in 2015.
