Boomers Rally to First Win

EVANSVILLE, Ind.  — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, rallied from a 5-1 deficit to win for the first time this season, capturing an 8-7 decision over the Evansville Otters.

Four runs in the top of the fifth allowed the Boomers to complete the comeback after falling behind. Schaumburg scored in the first inning for the second straight night on an RBI double from Mark Nelson. Evansville hit a pair of homers to answer for five straight runs. Mikal Hill homered in the third to start the comeback, his first professional hit. A two-run blast from Ino Patron in the fourth brought the Boomers within 5-4. Paul Kronenfeld tied the game with an opposite field double in the fifth and Patron tacked on a two-run double. Evansville rallied, but Dexter Price slammed the door with consecutive strikeouts to seal the win.

Scott Schultz did not factor in the decision in his first start of the year, working 4.1 innings. Kagen Hopkins earned the win with 3.2 scoreless innings of relief. Schaumburg picked up 11 hits in the game including seven for extra bases. Jordan Dean, Kronenfeld, Patron, and Hill all posted a pair of hits. Patron finished with four RBIs.
