Boomers Break Slide at Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, split a home and home doubleheader with the Joliet Slammers, breaking a franchise record eight game losing streak with a 5-2 road win on Tuesday night.

With the game tied in the top of the fifth, Justin Byrd delivered a two-run single to give the Boomers the lead for good. James Keller added a two-run busted bat single in the ninth to cap the scoring. The runs were enough for Seth Webster, who worked seven innings to win for the first time this season. Webster fanned seven, becoming the Schaumburg career leader in strikeouts. Evan Boyd tossed the final two frames to earn his first save of the season. Keller posted a pair of hits in the win while Chris Robinson reached base three times and scored twice.

The Boomers (2-9) will play a third game in 24 hours with a 10:00 a.m. contest on Wednesday at Joliet. RHP Scott Schultz starts against RHP Liam O’Sullivan.
