Offensive Outburst Gives Boomers the Victory

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, scored four runs in the second inning and never looked back Sunday night to avoid a sweep against the Washington Wild Things in an 11-3 victory.

Dusty Robinson got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with a one out single. Ino Patron drove the next pitch out to right field to give the Boomers a four-run lead. The Boomers were held scoreless in only two of the final seven innings, scoring one run in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Schaumburg scored another four runs in the eighth inning, starting with a two-run home run from Josh Gardiner, an RBI triple from Chris Robinson and an RBI single from Mark Nelson.

The Boomers had season highs in runs and hits Sunday night. Patron and Chris Robinson were a triple and a double respectively away from the cycle. Starter Josh Heddinger pitched five innings giving up two earned runs and striking out four. Evan Boyd pitched a flawless inning and a third in relief. Boyd has retired 12 straight batters in his last three appearances.

Schaumburg will take Memorial Day off and try to keep the winning ways rolling as they start a three game series against the Florence Freedom with Seth Webster on the mound.
