Eight Run Outburst Gives Boomers Seventh Straight Victory

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, left little room for drama as they erupted for eight runs in the first inning in a 9-5 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums Tuesday night.

Traverse City scored one run in the top of the first before the Boomers sent 11 men to the plate in the bottom of the frame. Dusty Robinson doubled home Josh Gardiner for the Boomers first run. Paul Kronenfeld doubled home two more before Chris Robinson hit a two run home run, his second of the year. In his second at-bat of the inning, Gardiner hit a three-run homerun off the left-field foul pole to cap the scoring in the first. The Beach Bums bullpen allowed Traverse City to pull closer but the seven-run deficit proved too much as the Boomers added one more in the eighth on a Shawn Payne solo home run.

The win Tuesday night meant the seventh straight victory for Schaumburg as Kagen Hopkins earned his first win as a starterr. Hopkins threw seven innings allowing two runs on six hits, striking out five. Mark Nelson reached base for the 16th consecutive game and Gardiner reached base for the 11th straight contest. The Boomers are above .500 for the first time this year in their third consecutive series win.

Schaumburg will attempt to make this the second-longest winning streak in team history Thursday morning with Josh Heddinger (1-2, 4.93) facing Michael Shreves (1-2, 6.23) for Traverse City.
