Yankees Purchase Contract of Josh Gardiner

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — The New York Yankees have purchased the contract of Schaumburg Boomers shortstop Josh Gardiner

The 23-year-old rookie signed on May 20. He played 23 games for Schaumburg but made an impact immediately both in the field and at the plate. Gardiner posted a .311 batting average with two home runs, 14 RBI and nine extra base hits. The Radford University alum will likely return to his home state of Virginia to play for the Pulaski Yankees.

“Josh has done an outstanding job for us over the past month,” Manager Jamie Bennett said. “He is one of the most polished rookies I have had. We will miss him here and wish him the best as he takes a step forward in his career.”
